Peter Fernandes is an award-winning actor and emerging director based in Toronto, Ontario celebrated for his versatility and dynamic presence on stage. A graduate of the Soulpepper Academy and the University of Alberta’s BFA Acting program, Peter has performed extensively at leading Canadian theatres, including Soulpepper, the Shaw Festival, Canadian Stage, and Crow’s Theatre.

His standout stage work includes acclaimed leading performances in Fat Ham (Canadian Stage), One Man, Two Guvnors (Shaw Festival), The Bidding War, The Master Plan, and Fifteen Dogs (Crow’s Theatre). Peter has been nominated for and the recipient of multiple Dora Mavor Moore Awards including winning Outstanding Performer in a Featured Role for Rose: A New Musical at Soulpepper, as well as Outstanding Ensemble Performance for Incident at Vichy (Soulpepper) and Jerusalem (Company Theatre, Outside the March, Starvox).

In 2023, Peter was honoured as an inaugural recipient of the Philip Akin Black Shoulders Legacy Award, recognizing his leadership and artistic excellence as a Black theatre artist in Canada.

His screen credits include God of Frogs (Highball TV), 21 Black Futures: This Is Our Own Native Land (CBC/Obsidian Theatre), Pretty Hard Cases (CBC), and Odd Squad Mobile Unit (PBS/TVO).

Peter has been singled out by multiple publications as one of Toronto’s Top Artists and continues to build a versatile career, recently expanding into directing. He was the 2024 Neil Munro Directing Intern at the Shaw Festival and is the Metcalf Foundation Artistic Director Intern at Crow’s Theatre.

In 2025, Peter will host the 45th Anniversary Dora Mavor Moore Awards at Meridian Hall, marking his debut as host of Canada’s most prestigious theatre awards.
